Pyroguard EI30 INT

A new Extra Care housing development from Eden Housing Association in Carlisle comprised of 60 mixed tenure homes, principally for over 55’s, who require some social care but wish to remain independent in their own homes. To ensure compliance with Part B fire safety regulations, architects Day Cummins specified Pyroguard EI30 INT, to ensure the required levels of fire protection could be achieved with screens in the communal area.

As the Pyroguard fire glass could be delivered to the exact dimensions required on-site, it helped us to save time and feedback from the joiners was that the product was easy to install

Philip Brooks, Day Cummins, explains: “Good daylighting and sightlines were key drivers on this Extra Care scheme. These can enhance visual recognition for those with failing eyesight or dementia, and can reduce reliance on artificial lighting. The Pyroguard fire glass helps to achieve these aims and ensures fire protection requirements are met.”

The fire glass was also installed as a fixed window next to a fire door in an internal corridor, the size and weight of which demanded that Pyroguard be installed on-site. Philip Hoyles, Thomas Armstrong, comments: “Keeping to budget on a project is always a priority. As the Pyroguard fire glass could be delivered to the exact dimensions required on-site, it helped us to save time and feedback from the joiners was that the product was easy to install.”
